The UK government’s Streamlined Energy and Carbon Reporting (SECR) policy was implemented on 1 April 2019 and the ESFA has confirmed with the Department for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy (BEIS) that academy trusts are within the scope of the legislation.

Each Trust must now report on their annual energy use (in kWh)

Stakeholders can hold academy trusts to account on: gas, electricity, transport fuel, associated greenhouse gas emissions (in tonnes of carbon dioxide equivalent (CO2e)) and provide a trustees narrative of measures taken to improve energy efficiency in the period of the report.
